Born in Rawalpindi, Huma Chughtai hails from a family of strong, independent women and was always encouraged to pursue an education and create a life for herself. She is a freelance consultant with over 25 years of experience working in the areas of governance, gender and development, parliamentary strengthening, judicial reform, and human rights. She has worked for organizations such as the UN Development Programme, GTZ, the Asian Development Bank, World Vision, The Asia Foundation, and Energia International. Ms. Chughtai received her master of law degree from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. In May 2010, Ms. Chughtai was the Chief Coordinator of Pakistan’s first parliamentary women’s convention on The Role of Women Parliamentarians in Peace and Reconciliation. In this capacity, she works with men, women, youth, and students in conflict areas to teach them about conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and human rights. With significant expertise in Sharia law, she educates her trainees on the peaceful elements of Islam and links international conventions with Islamic tenants to help them counter radical arguments that fuel extremism.
