SPEAKER - Thomas Wernberg

Dr Thomas Wernberg

Thomas Wernberg is a marine ecologist with a predilection for large seaweeds. Originally from Denmark, he arrived in Perth in 1999.

His research aims at understanding the global to local processes that control the performance and function of seaweeds in nearshore ecosystems.

Most of his current research is focused on the implications of climate change and climate variability, especially the threats to temperate kelp forests from marine heatwaves and range-shifting tropical herbivores.

Thomas is an ARC Future Fellow and senior lecturer in the School of Plant Biology, and coordinates the ‘Marine Systems’ and ‘Global Change and the Marine Environment’ units.
