Event description

It’s a question that has perplexed philosophers for centuries. Today, in a world where instant gratification reigns supreme, there seems an expectation that we should be happy, all the time. We now debate whether happiness is a physiological or a psychological state – and to what extent we can control it through what we do, how we think and how we live.

 Researchers at UWA are finding answers to the world’s most compelling questions. This is one. To launch Research Week 2016, join an interdisciplinary panel of UWA experts as they explore the elusive qualities of not just happiness but resilience in the face of life’s inevitable storms. We’ll look at:

  •  the roles of nature and nurture in wellbeing;
  • how fun, aesthetics, learning and income influence life satisfaction;
  • if being ‘unhappy’ is sometimes OK.

The panel discussion will include an audience Q & A. Later, join us for light refreshments and the chance to carry on the conversation with panellists and fellow graduates.
