Tim Shanahan is Principal Adviser at the University of Western Australia, working in the areas of industry engagement, innovation and impact. Currently Tim is guiding the UWA industry engagement and innovation program, UWA Innovation Quarter (or UWAIQ).
He was the founding Director of the Energy and Minerals Institute at UWA (until 2015), tasked with reinforcing WA’s position as a preeminent education and research hub for resource sciences.
In his role as Director of the EMI, Tim served on many boards representing UWA, including the WA Energy Research Alliance (WA:ERA), the Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET), the Planning and Transport Research Centre (PATREC) and the National Resource Sciences Precinct (NRSP) as well as being a founder of the In the Zone concept.
Tim’s role at the University is well supported by his breadth of experience and networks within in the resources, business and government sectors in Western Australia. A long term advocate for improving mobility and road safety in WA, Tim is a Councillor and Honourary Life Member of the RAC in WA and is its immediate past President. He also contributes extensively to WA in his current roles as Chairman of both WA Super and the WA Regional Development Trust (responsible for overseeing the $1B per annum Royalties for Regions program). He was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2001 and a Centenary Medal for Service to WA local government in 2003.
Tim is a former Chair of the Australia Day Council of WA, Deputy Chair of the Esperance Port Authority, Chair of the Pilbara Development Commission and Member of the CEDA State Advisory Committee.
Tim is a UWA Law Graduate.
